College Experience Update

Hey everyone!

I'm very sorry that there hasn't been a blog post for a while now.  I have been very busy and I didn't have a lot of time to post.  However, now I have finished the first year of my course at college, I have time to write posts.  I am hoping I can post consistently throughout the summer! This post relates to my previous College Experience post where I spoke about my whole experience.  At the end of that blog post I noted that I would update my experience accordingly through the year.  So, as I have finished the first year of my course, I thought it was a perfect time to reflect on the year and let you know my experience of college and completing a course so far.

At the start of the course it is so important to mix with the class so you can find friends and bond as a group.  I found this difficult at the start of the year as I had so little confidence, however, I pushed myself to speak to my classmates and it helped me so much! Since I started the course in September I started a job too.  This certainly helped me with my confidence, and I can see the progress I have made.

Completing work throughout the year can get tough, especially with a lot of deadlines.  I also tend to find that I become unmotivated around certain times and find myself unmotivated and unproductive when I do not understand the work. To help to keep my motivation up I tried to think positively towards the year and think that it would all be towards my end grade and that if i ever was struggling, that I needed to ask for help.  Whether it is guidance from a friend in your class, or the teacher, if you are struggling to understand the task, definitely ask for help.

Sometimes I would be nervous to ask for help because I thought I would look silly for not understanding the task, however, I soon realised that it doesn't matter what people think, if you need help, then you need help.  Another way I helped myself to stay motivated was to keep telling myself that I am completing this course for my future and it will benefit me in knowledge, confidence and experience. To be totally honest, the workload did end up piling up and it was getting difficult to complete and I started to worry, but as I mentioned, I told myself if I didn't get it done, it could affect my final grade.  So, when I go back to college at the start of a new academic year, I know I will want to complete the work because I know where I would like to progress to.

In general, the first year of my current course has helped me in so many ways.  I have gained so much more confidence from this course.  This is from opportunities that I have taken, people I've met and being able to socialise with members of the college and also people in general.  Firstly, I'd like to discuss socialising.  As I stated in my first 'College Experience' post, I was very shy at the start of the year and did actually find it hard to socialise.  However, as the year progressed I found myself being able to engage with many different people, such as staff and other students in my class.

My course has also helped me engage with members of the public through opportunities that have risen that I was lucky enough to take! These experiences have enabled me to discover where I would like to go in my future and my career.
By taking up opportunities that are placed your way, it will help you to gain confidence and experience.  Some of the opportunities that came my way, I was scared to say yes to, and I nearly did say no.  However, I realised that it would help me with my confidence and my future.  Now, I am grateful I had the opportunity to take part in activities to help me and I am proud of my progress with work experience.

Overall, looking back at the first year of this course, I had such a great time, although it got tough at times.  I have learnt so much and have progressed.  I now know a direction and career I would like to go into once I complete college.

I hope you enjoyed reading this updated college experience. I do believe it is important to share your experiences because it can help others to understand how things work and determine whether they might enjoy it too.  I am currently planning a lot of blog posts, and I am thinking of uploading a post on work experience as I think it is important and is valuable to everyone seeking employment and experience to progress.

Do more of what makes you happy and follow your dreams!
😊💖
